Differentiators

  • Safety

    whatwe1

UJAMAA continues to focus on project safety, and has voluntarily partnered with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) at a silver level through an alliance with the Builders Association of Greater Chicago. Our safety programs are recognized annually for excellence in occupational safety and health training.

  • Diversity

    whatwe2

UJAMAA is committed to equal and representative employment, as well as business and community opportunities for local residents, minority and woman-owned businesses. UJAMAA maintains the highest standards in all efforts related to equal employment opportunity including substantial participation by Minority Business Enterprises, Women Business Enterprises and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (MBE/WBE/DBE, respectively).

UJAMAA itself represents a diverse and representative mix of employees, subcontractors and suppliers and is proudly based on Chicago’s south side. We are a certified MBE and DBE general contractor and the federal government’s Small Business Administration (SBA) has designated us as an 8(a) certified firm. In addition, we will provide a reciprocal effort to mirror the community being served during the construction of our projects, continually bettering the communities in which we live and work.

Taking a proactive approach to providing opportunities for minorities and women is an essential element with any project and UJAMAA will establish and implement a results-oriented program to achieve our client’s specific goals. UJAMAA is highly involved with numerous advocacy groups including African American Contractors Association (AACA), Black Contractors United (BCU), Chicago Urban League (CUL), Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA) and the Federation of Women Contractors (FWC). Through our personal relationships and involvement with these, and similar organizations, UJAMAA consistently meets or exceeds project diversity requirements.

  • Sustainability

    whatwe3

Since its inception, UJAMAA has successfully completed several LEED projects. To further our commitment to green building initiatives, we constructed our new corporate headquarters to achieve LEED Certification and, several members of the firm’s project management team have achieved their LEED AP designation. Constructing and operating our own sustainable business allows us to better understand the implementation of green principles and energy conservation techniques on an Owners project.

UJAMAA recently completed the first LEED certified standalone car rental location in the nation for Enterprise Holdings. The O’Hare Enterprise Rent-A-Car facility earned LEED Silver designation. We also constructed the first retail LEED certified location for Bank of America with the Chatham Bank Branch on Chicago’s south side.

Our team of construction professionals is well versed in energy retrofit projects, infrastructure upgrades and comprehensive M/E/P systems modernization. We are able to assist in pre-construction services, equipment selection and energy performance consultation throughout the construction process and into commissioning.
