City Official, Development Team, and Construction Team at Park Station Lofts Groundbreaking Ceremony

We recently celebrated the groundbreaking for the Park Stations Lofts project. UJAMAA Construction along with our joint venture partners Brown & Momen were selected by The Michaels Organization and DL3 Realty to be general contractors for the Park Station Lofts project. With a design from FitzGerald and Brook Architecture, Park Station Lofts is a 5 story, 58-unit mixed-use apartment building with 3 retail spaces and 2 live/work units on the ground floor. This project is the first affordable housing project with the Woodlawn Affordable Housing Ordinance. The project also features a black woman led construction team and all black project management field team.

“I am thrilled to break ground on our first affordable housing development being realized under the Woodlawn Housing Preservation Ordinance,” said Mayor Lightfoot. “The Park Station Lofts will answer many housing needs of the Woodlawn community while also delivering retail space, new streetscaping, jobs, and more to this area. Importantly, this development will ensure that the long overdue influx of targeted investments in Woodlawn does not displace residents, allowing everyone to benefit from this community enhancement.”

“I’m a little in my feelings today because it took us a long time to get here,” Taylor said. “Too often, people don’t see our community organizations. They write the ordinance, they give us the examples and then they help us fight for it. We forget about the little folks — not today.”

With a location near public transit, a range of housing costs, and on-site services for residents, Park Station Lofts can work against gentrification and displacement as the Obama Presidential Center is built.

Special thanks to Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor, Commissioner Marisa Novara, The Michaels OrganizationDL3 Realty and everyone that made this project possible.
