COLUMBIA COLLEGE CHICAGO - MEDIA PRODUCTION CENTER
Ujamaa Construction (“UJAMAA”) was contracted by W.E. O’Neil Construction to complete the general trades package for the new Media Production Center at Columbia College in Chicago, Illinois.
Featuring three large sound stages for instruction in film, video, and motion capture, as well as teaching space for lighting, set-making, directing, and animation classes, the Media Production Center is a professional-quality facility whose design encourages a new level of interdisciplinary collaboration among students and faculty.
The first new construction building in Columbia’s 128-year history at the time, it is also a new model for sustainability in a discipline known for its high energy consumption. The scope of this assignment included the new interior construction of a state-of-the-art production space designed to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration among students in film, interactive arts, media and television. UJAMAA self- performed the installation of new hardware, acoustical door assemblies, specialty finishes, fixtures and window treatments. These features led the the project being LEED Gold certified.
