ENGINE COMPANY 115

With the history and significance of CFD, Ujamaa was honored to have the opportunity to build one of their fire stations. Ujamaa Construction (“UJAMAA”) has teamed up with Trice Construction, WBE firm, to design and build the new Engine Company 115, located 1024 W. 119th St, Chicago, IL 60643 soon to be the largest fire station in the City of Chicago.

The Project scope consists of the development for the Chicago Fire Department of a vacant property located at 119th Street and Morgan Street to house Engine Company 115, an OEMC monopole, CFD District Office, training space, and associated site development. The building is a single-story masonry bearing structure of approximately 25,000-27,000 sq ft containing sleeping rooms, lockers, toilet/showers, living quarters, physical training space, and gear storage for 51 firefighters/EMTs and 8 officers, 4-bay apparatus room, District Offices for 4-6 staff with conference room, training classroom space, watch tower/ communication hub, hose drying tower, and necessary support spaces such as mechanical, communications room, storage, and workrooms. The Project incorporates sustainable elements with the target of achieving LEED Silver status.

We worked thru inclement weather conditions and thru the height of the COVID -19 pandemic to turn the building over to CFD without delay. The project management team of Ujamaa-Trice met and exceeded all minority, local business, and employment goals. To accomplish this as successfully as we did, Ujamaa-Trice commends the performance of the project management and field supervision team for their excellence in service. This fire station serves the South Side community and helps CFD handle the volume of fire emergencies in that area. Being the largest fire station in Chicago with over 27,000 Sq Ft, it is an architectural and safety feat and adds to the legacy and history of CFD.
