UJAMAA Construction (“UJAMAA”) was contracted to build the two-story state-of-the-art facility and domestic violence shelter located on the South side of Chicago.
The building consisted of a 6,300 sq ft renovation of an existing police station and construction of a 6,200 sq ft two-story masonry addition with a 20 stall parking lot.
This new 23,200 sq ft interim housing and support services building incorporates both new construction and adaptive re-use components. The facility includes 40 Shelter beds with suite style living environments, modern full kitchen, laundry facility, meeting rooms, retail space, computer lab and a private garden with play space.
During construction, UJAMAA resolved environmental issues that we were existing in the earthwork and the existing facility.
The construction professionals from UJAMAA self-performed the carpentry and general labor trades on this facility.
