METROPOLITAN PIER AND EXPOSITION AUTHORITY: METRA TRACK IMPROVEMENTS
UJAMAA Construction was selected to execute on-track improvements for MPEA’s McCormick Place METRA station. This project included the removal of concrete encasement, exterior area drain work, safety net installation, and mechanical drip pan installation over active railroad tracks.
The project also included the temporary protection of existing power lines over the tracks. These power lines are extremely hi-voltage due to their function of powering the train.
UJAMAA Construction prepared a safety plan that was reviewed and approved by the METRA Authorities. This plan included daily check in, job briefings before, during, and after each shift. The project was completed over 2 months, with 6 hours of work each night. The entire project was completed without any safety violations or near misses. Through the success of the project UJAMAA is now registered / certified to work with METRA statewide.
