MARIANO’S FRESH MARKET - SOUTH LOOP

The Michaels Organization builds affordable luxury housing with unique, urban designs. They provide housing for military members, students, and low-income residents. They manage over 400 communities with 146,000 residents. They have 16 communities based in Chicago as well.

Ujamaa Construction Inc and McShane Construction Company have partnered in a joint venture project at 4424 and 4434 S. Cottage Grove, Chicago, entailing the construction of two (2) individual 4-story (42) unit apartment buildings adjacent to each other with surrounding parking and landscape areas. The buildings consist of metal stud framed wall panels with wood truss and deck on top of a 1 story pre-cast concrete podium with a grade level retail space. The exterior façade is clad with brick veneer siding and vinyl windows. The project has a 14-month construction duration and a $26.5 million budget.

This project provided jobs for residents in the predominantly Black community of Bronzeville. Furthermore, it provides affordable housing to residents wishing to remain or move to the historic Bronzeville community. This project illustrates Ujamaa’s commitment to rebuilding our community.
