UJAMAA Construction: Honored and Inspired at the March of Dimes Transportation and Construction Awards Luncheon

Date

There are moments in every journey that remind us why we strive, why we persist, and why we commit ourselves to the transformative power of construction. For UJAMAA Construction and our partners at Austin Power Partners, one such moment transpired at the recent March of Dimes Transportation and Construction Awards Luncheon.

We were deeply honored to be recognized for our collaborative work on the O’Hare Terminal 5 Expansion and Renovation project. To have our efforts acknowledged in such a prestigious setting is both humbling and inspiring, reinforcing our belief in the power of collaboration and the impact of sustainable construction.

The project, commissioned by the Chicago Department of Aviation, involved the construction of over 300,000 square feet of new space for Terminal 5. This marked the terminal’s first major expansion since it opened in 1993, and was designed to comfortably welcome an increasing number of travelers.

The L-shaped addition incorporates nine new wide-body aircraft gates, reconfigures three existing gates, and introduces a community gathering area that functions as a town square. With an array of retail, food, and beverage offerings, the space is not just a gateway to the world, but also a reflection of the vibrant community it serves.

Key to our vision was the integration of sustainable design features. The gently raised ceiling welcomes natural light, while high-performance glass, a circadian lighting system, and durable materials underscore our commitment to sustainability. As we aim for LEED Silver certification, we are reminded that our job isn’t just about building structures; it’s about building a sustainable future.

As we celebrate this recognition, we extend our deepest gratitude to the March of Dimes, our partners at Austin Power Partners, and most importantly, the community we serve. This award is not just for UJAMAA Construction; it’s for every hand that helped shape this project, every voice that inspired our work, and every heart that believes in the power of sustainable construction.

Together, we build. Together, we grow. Together, we create a legacy.
